To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before was released in 2018, the movie was directed by Susan Johnson. The main characters in the movie was Lana Condor who played Lara Jean Coney, Noah Centine who played as Peter Kavinsky. This movie is about a girl in high school that keeps her love letters hidden away until someone found them and gave them out to every boy she has ever loved. When writing she pours out heart and writes things she would never say in person because was for her eyes only to read. The boys that started received the letters was approaching her the letters. But through all the traumatic events that was happening Lara Jean finds herself in a real relationship. Sameen Amer from Rotten Tomatoes wrote “A well-intentioned, good-natured teen romance that plays it safe and ends up being blander than it should have been.” The movie was nominated for six awards but only won one which was Favorite Movie Actor at the Kids’ Choice Awards, USA. At the being I didn’t think I was going to like the move because it started off boring until BOOM her love letters were all out to the people she loved. If this movie was at the movies I don’t think I would have payed to watch it. The movie was good but not great. I would have loved to seen it on Disney. But the movie showed that even though her letters wasn’t meant for them to read she had to basically step out and lead with her heart.

They face problems that go with in an interracial relationship but they figure it together at the end of the day. When I first seen this movie I never once took my eyes of the screen it was so great. This movie was the first introduce me to interracial love. It showed me that some people will accept and some won’t. It also showed me that some may also try to ruin it if you don’t be careful. When watching this movie the movie had some little glitches I think if anything they could fix in the movie I would want to it to be the glitches other than that I am very pleased.

Marcianne Miller a reviewer from Rotten Tomatoes writes “There’s gotta be something right about a movie when half the audience dances up the theater aisles when it’s over.” Step Up was only nominated for three awards the only one they won was Choice Movie Dance. The movie started off great with Tyler and his friends at a party it felt like I was there or more that I wanted to be there. The movie never once really had a dull moment it was always happening. This movie introduced me to the love of dance and also the love of different backgrounds and how they can gain true love. If they could do anything different to this movie I would want them to incorporate a little bit more love scenes other than that it was great.

Arcade Games

Arcade Games

Image result for tapper arcade gameTapper
Tapper also known as Root Beer Tapper was released by Bally Midway in 1983. The goal of the game was to not let the mugs fall on the ground and to push the customer completely off the screen. The player serves customers by filling a mug at one of the four taps on the wall; the tap automatically slides the mug towards the customer. Customer catches the mugs that slid towards them. If a mug is not caught by a customer and it falls of the bar table you then lose a life for the player. If the mug was caught then it pushes the customers back off the screen. This game reminded me of the game called Cooking Fever. This game was challenging but fun at the same time.

Domino Man was released by Bally Midway in 1982. The main goal of Domino Man was to set up all the dominoes on every site marked by black dots. You will have pedestrians trying to knock over the dominoes; the Domino Man can shove them away from the dominoes. A killer bee is always popping up to sting Domino Man; there is also a neighborhood bully who is way bigger than Domino Man who can be stunned but not shoved. After player has set up all the dominoes they will have a choice on continue play increasing domino value or knock them all down, then you can move on to the next level. With Domino Man I had to be observant because anything and everything will try to make you lose.

Lady Bug

Lady bug is an insect-themed maze chase produced by Universal Games, the game was released in 1981. Lady Bug was inspired by the game called Pac-Man. The goal of Lady Bug was to eat all the flowers in the maze while avoiding the insects that are trying to get you. Unlike Pac-Man lady bug had its cheats on how you could get away from the insects by shifting any twenty green gates that was in the maze. The game Lady Bug was a very challenging game to me, even though the game had its cheats I still wasn’t able to out run the insects.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Image result for the cabinet of dr. caligari movieThe Cabinet of Dr. Caligari was made in 1920, the movie was directed by Robert Wiene. The three main characters were Werner Krauss who played Dr. Caligari, Conrad Veiidt who played Cesare and Friedrich Feher who played Francis. This movie was about a very insane hypnotist who uses a somnambulist to commit murders. Cody M a reviewer from Rotten Tomatoes writes “One of the first true competent storytelling films, that just so happens to be a horror.” The film is special because the movie tells a movie without using sound. They created a very dramatic like horror movie in silence. In 2002 The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari was nominated for Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards that was the only award that this movie have been nominated for. When the movie started I didn’t expect it to be a silent movie whatsoever. When watching the movie it kind of makes you feel like you are actually there. The best area of the film had to be the camera angles I had the feel of like I was spying on a person that I shouldn’t be spying on. The things that were not as successful to me was the way the subtitles would pop up on the screen the chose the wrong font. Another thing is how they would be mouthing words, if it’s supposed to be a silent movie they shouldn’t be mouthing anything. The elements that really wouldn’t hold up to well today would be the slowness of the movie and also the silence of the movie.

Turntable History

Little History About Turntables

Thomas Edison was the mastermind behind what we call today turntables. Thomas Edison made an invention of a device that would record and replay sound called the phonograph. The first tune that they recorded and played was Mary had a little lamb. Then later it got the name grapophone which later turned into record player.  A stylus recorded sounds onto thick tinfoil wrapped around a cylinder. The graphophone replaced the foil with wax which made the machine have better quality of sound. 1934 A man named RCA Victor started selling the Duo Jr, the first component turntable which was plugged into a radio speaker. By 1977 the turntables became more popular to the world of hip-hop. Mixmag.com stated “They could also handle a new concept that had entered turntable culture – scratching - creatively utilizing the noise made when a record was swiftly moved back and forth at speed. For the next quarter century, despite the appearance of many turntables that boasted advances in one area or another, Technics were the industry standard.” Mix master Mike and Dj Dpooky were famous for upside-down mixing. As well Dj Spinderealla who is a woman Dj that scratches like a BEAST, she  is still going strong in the world of hip-hop. Today the record shoppers started using portable turntables. So now instead of just leaving them at home or only hearing /using them in the club’s people are able to take them wherever they want. I would say that turntables have changed drastically over the years and will continue as years’ progress.

On February 26 at 12:15pm in the Math and Science building on the Paris Junior College campus, the African American Student Union hosted the Black History Month program. The Program included singing spirituals, poems, history of gospel music. Guest speakers where included and the event was open to the public. The purpose of the AASU is to bring cultural awareness to the PJC campus and Lamar County (surrounding area).
AASU members stood and lead the pledge called This Flag of Mine. Then we had prayer by Elijah Hickerson and Welcome by Austin Brown. A poem was presented by Tori Green and Kayla Moseley called Lord Why Did You Make Me Black. This poem was relevant for the Black History Month program because it showed the feeling and the emotion of being black and taking pride of the color of their skin.

Then the members of AASU sang a song called Jesus Loves Me, the members remixed it to newer version the audience seemed to really enjoy. Singing songs for Black people was their way to communicate during the slavery days, to show this in modern day everyone joined and sung Every Praise by Hezekiah Walker. The AASU members led Lift Every Voice and Sing while everyone joined in. Lift Every Voice and Sing is the Black National Anthem by James Weldon in the 1900. It was written about the celebration of Lincoln because he helped the African American achieve freedom from slavery.
Rev. Lance Mann was the guest speaker he spoke about how the college students needed to make up their minds today on what they wanted to be and do in life. “When your body fails you, you will still have your mind.” In other words, never give upon the goal you set in life for yourself. Believing in yourself and whatever you set your mind on you can achieve.

In conclusion of this black history month program, learning about the history is not only fun but also very important.

Cosmopolitan Magazine

Cosmopolitan Magazine

Cosmopolitan magazine audience is usually for the young adult women. Due to the technology in today’s time young adults are straying away from the cosmopolitan magazines and tuning more into their online social media sites, such as on Facebook, Instagram and snapchat.

Cosmo is considered hybrid and does not use print or digital more than the other. Instead they use both methods of communication to contact their audience. Digital media expand the core print offering by being available 24/7 whereas print you are limited to a magazine once or twice in a month. With digital they update their information every day.

Cosmo engages the reader by writing articles about fashion, love, and music. They keep everyone updated with the newest trends. Cosmo usually talk about what females want to hear and also what they need to hear meaning they will put in life experiences.

The difference between digital and print media is that digital media is very accessible while as print media you first have to pay to even get a copy then hope that it doesn’t get near water so that it won’t ruin the paper. Also with print you sometimes have to wait months to even get a new issue that they put out. As for media you don’t have to worry, you can just google and there it is right in front of you. In conclusion I don’t think there will be a time when Cosmo print ceases to exist because everyone doesn’t always get good service, with a magazine you do not need service.

About Me

“You can’t help who you love, you’re not supposed to.” (Julia Stiles, Save the Last Dance). I have always been so fascinated with romance movies ever since I was little. The first love movie I seen had to be Pretty Woman. She was a great woman with a dirty lifestyle. He looked past her hooker ways and into her heart. He didn’t care about her loaded baggage she carried. The reason I love romance/love movies is because it shows the emotional side of a REAL man. Men that will do everything in their power to either get in a relationship with a female or keep the relationship with the female.
The feeling of love and being loved always made me happy. Watching love movies have always made me have hope for a great relationship with my future husband that is out there somewhere in this big world looking for me. Some of my favorite romance/love movies are Up, Save the Last Dance, Honey, Step Up, Sweet Home Alabama, Something’s Gotta Give and The Proposal. When I watch these movies I feel more or more vulnerable about love. I think romance/love movies are great because it shows how everyone can find true love. It doesn’t matter if you are fat, skinny, or even green, black, brown or white. Love is love. “In my opinion, the best thing you can do is find someone who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what have you; the right person will still think the sun shines out your ass. That’s the kind of person that’s worth sticking with.” (Diablo Cody, Juno).
